Obituary of Nestor Luis Mendez

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Nestor Luis "Papo" Mendez who passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Cooper Cancer Center in Camden, NJ.

Born in New York City on September 11, 1951 Papo was the first of five children to Aida and Nestor Mendez. After graduating from high school Papo worked various jobs, from the US Postal Service, the family cabinetry business along with our father, and finally as a Maintenance Custodian for Vineland Public Schools. Yet the biggest joy and accomplishment of his career was his time as a jockey riding thoroughbreds at historical racetracks such as Garden State, Penn National, Aqueduct and Belmont.

Papo is survived by his son Michael, his mother Aida, siblings Margie, Doris, Linda, and Bernie, his nieces Gina, Tennille, and Joeie, and their children Rob Jr, Joshua, Mia, Bella, Brayden, Brooke, Blake and Madden.

Special thanks to the Gonzalez family, and friends in Vineland, NJ whom he always held close to his heart.

Services for Nestor "Papo" Mendez will be held at 900am on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Iglesia Pentecostal Fuente de Vida Church, 216 W Elmer St. Vineland, NJ 08360, followed by a memorial in the lower level of the church.
