Obituary of Eugene J Gallagher

Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eugene J. Gallagher 91 of Millville passed away peacefully at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Eugene proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII, where he lost complete vision in his left eye. While recuperating from that, he met Helen Keller, who visited all the servicemen and women who lost their sight at the Bathesda Navy Hospital. While that stopped him from pursuing a promising baseball career, it did not stop him from enjoying life and raising a family. Eugene was a life time member of the Local 638 United Association of the Steamfitters Union. He loved the outdoors and was an avid Seaman. Having boats all his life, his favorite fish to catch and eat was Swordfish. His favorite indoor recreation was gambling, as he had homes in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas, NV, after he retired. He is predeceased by his parents, John T. Gallagher and Ethel Gallagher (nee Ostheim) and second wife, Selma Gallagher (nee Blair). He is survived by his partner-in-life, Ruth Gallagher, three children; Trish Gallagher of Freehold, NJ, Kathleen Cossaboon (nee Gallagher) and husband Al of Millville, NJ and John T. Gallagher, II of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristal Stocker from Havasu, AZ, Korinne O'Connell and her husband George from Middletown, MD, and twins Tristan and Tanner Cossaboon of Millville, also by two great grandchildren, Tyler and Cameron from Middletown, MD. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
