Obituary of Eva Maria Martins
Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eva Maria Martins of Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully at Lincoln Specialty Care on December 24, 2013. She was born Eva Maria Massinger to Karl and Maria Massinger on June 10, 1930 in Lindau, Germany. She had one younger sister Anneliesa Massinger of Italy.
She raised her children in Mannheim, Germany until 1966 when she immigrated to Warsaw, New York with her husband, children and father. She taught herself English and applied to college receiving an Associate Degree and certification as a Medical Assistant. She became a naturalized citizen in 1971.
She raised her family in NY and then moved to Van Nuys, CA in 1978 to be near her grown children. She worked as a Medical Assistant and was Manager of the apartment building where she lived until her retirement. In 1999 she relocated to Los Angeles to help raise her grandson. In 2007, after traveling to Germany to visit family, she followed her children back to the East Coast, settling in Buena, NJ where she resided at Buena Senior Apartments, a complex her son built.
Maria loved reading, gardening, knitting, watching movies and phone chats with her longtime friend Lilo Bobela of Washington. She enjoyed time spent working on puzzles with her son during his daily visits and looked forward to her daughter's monthly trips from Virginia Beach to see her. She enjoyed being by the Ocean on both coasts and treasured her last visit to Atlantic City with her children to sit on the beach and lunch on the Boardwalk. She was very proud of her children's accomplishments and kept albums of photos and newspaper clippings chronicling their lives. Nothing put a smile on her face more than a visit or phone call from a grandchild. Her home was sprinkled with pictures of them.
She is survived by her son Hans Lampart (Lori DiMatteo-Fiocchi) of Vineland, daughters Margaret Curran (Tony) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sylvia Sunderland of Weldon, CA , a son Helmut Laumann (Denise) of Saarlouis, Germany and Wolfgang Schmeisser of Germany. Maria is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan Lampart, Isabella Sunderland, Sammy Fiocchi, Jr., Nicholas Fiocchi, Jake and Dylan Curran and one great grandson Sammy Fiocchi III. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Gary Sunderland.
