Obituary of Nicholas Joseph Lera

Nicholas (Nick) Joseph Lera, 87, of Absecon, NJ/Absecon Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of Vineland, NJ passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. He was born to the late Thomas Lera and Cecilia Craven on July 9, 1926 in Vineland, NJ. He attended Sacred Heart High School. Nick served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Fleet. He and his twin brother Charles, served on the same ships during the war and were in the Battle of Okinawa. Upon his return from the war, he became a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in Vineland. Following his retirement from the Postal Service, he was a Security Guard at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City for 10 years. During his life, he enjoyed baseball, and often went to Cooperstown, NY for Hall of Fame inductions. He enjoyed tending to his yard with his twin brother. Nick was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Bernard, and an infant son, Nicholas Jr. Nick is survived by his twin brother, Charles of Absecon, NJ; daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Witzman; and, grandsons Trevor and Kyle Witzman, all of Monument, Colorado; as well nieces, nephews and their families. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1st at 10:30am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Sacred Heart Church, Vineland. Nick will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Vineland. Friends will be received on Saturday at the church from 9:30am to 10:30am. Arrangements are by DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S.
