Obituary of John E Giacometti, Jr.
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On the evening of December 25, 2015, John Edward Giacometti, Jr. passed away of natural causes surrounded by many of his loved ones in his Ocean City vacation home.
Born in Vineland, NJ on April 30, 1930, he would remain there to live out the majority of his eclectic life.
"Jack" married Nancy Miller Giacometti on January 26, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Vineland. A man of honor and responsibility, he was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was self-employed his entire life as the owner and manager of Gamett Glass, Inc., a small glass business that resided in the city's Industrial Park. He sold the business in 1992, but retirement wasn't his style. He returned to work shortly after as a supervisor for Ace Glass. He was honored in 2006 as a Friend of Historic Vineland.
Jack knew the best ways to have fun when he wasn't working hard. He played baseball his entire life, including his later adulthood. The all-star third baseman was inducted into the Vineland Baseball Hall of Fame. He loved wine-making, hunting, fishing, and most of all, his family. It was only appropriate that he would pass on his favorite holiday, Christmas, at his favorite place in the world, which was down by the shore in his Central Avenue castle. His family will continue to vacation there in his memory, remembering him with sandy toes and smiling faces.
He is predeceased by his mother; Pauline Santel Giacometti, father; John E. Giacometti, Sr. and son-in-law; Joseph Stavoli.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Miller) Giacometti, daughter; Leanne Stavoli, daughter; Beth Damiano and her husband James Damiano, daughter; Gina Shellhamer and her husband Scott Shellhamer, son; John Giacometti and his wife Natalie Giacometti, and grandchildren; Andrew Stavoli, Emily Shellhamer, Alex Shellhamer, Dennis Damiano, John Giacometti, and Julia Giacometti.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30th from 9:00am to 10:45am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 1010 E. Landis Ave., Vineland and will be followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am. John will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Christ the Good Shepherd Parish. Arrangements are by the DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland, NJ.
