Mr. Skwarlo and the marching band shall always remain as my favorite memories of high school (1974-1977) Under his guidance, we won many awards. Thank you, Mr. Skwarlo, for taking a skinny, shy girl and making high not only tolerable, but enjoyable. I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. S.

My deepest sympathy to the family and close friends of Mr. Skwarlo. I had the honor and pleasure of having him as a director when I was a member of the All South Jersey Band. He was a very passionate man, bringing so much to those around him, and inspiring the love of music from within. I was fortunate enough to have occasional contact whenever Mainland would compete against Absegami (my HS), and it was always a pleasure to see him - he always had a smiling face and a gracious and encouraging word. You will surely be missed; rest in peace Mr. Skwarlo, and enjoy all those wonderful memories of music that you helped to create over the years.

Mr. Skwarlo and I often bumped heads but he was one of the most influential people in my life. I often think about the great times I had in band thanks to him. He taught us teamwork and that if you are willing to put in the hard work and dedication than you can achieve great things. Due to those lessons I have been able to achieve great things in my life.

I got to experience Mr. Skwarlo's passion for music first hand in one of his classes and by watching him in countless pep rallies and school games. He infused his love of jazz with traditional band leadership making for a unique and more exciting school band than most.

Mr. Skwarlo "Dad" was, as my mother will attest to, one of the main reasons I got through HS. He was one of the teachers you remember and strive to emulate. He not only kept me grounded but taught and allowed me to use my wings to fly. The memories are uncountable. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. He will be missed by many. "Atten Hup!" Debbie, Class of 71

Mr. Skwarlo was a great man, a phenomenal teacher, and the most amazing band director. He made being a band member fun and cool! We loved him dearly and cherish all the memories. Remember the pumpkin band on his front lawn? Keeping his family in my prayers. (MRHS Class of 1975)

I too have many memories of band and Mike Skwarlo. I think that all of learned much from him and not all about music. Discipline, self worth, striving to improve ourselves to be the best band/band front anywhere. The trips to Kentucky and Dallas, Tx. and so much more. He will be sorely missed!

Mike Skwarlo taught us much more than music. He taught us life skills, determination, belief in ones self, and to never give up in what you believe in. My memories of being in the marching band at Mainland were the most cherished of all high school memories. We will all miss him.

The things this man taught us! Teamwork, discipline, striving for perfection, appreciation of all types of music. Nobody pushed us harder than Mr. Skwarlo did. But nobody was prouder of us when we did well! The lessons I learned in band have carried me into my adult life. Mr. Skwarlo was one of those rare teachers who made a lasting impression on so many people. I will forever be grateful for having known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Skwarlo family. God bless!
